Welcome reception for George Skemperis

Sydney welcomed the new Consul General of Greece in a wonderful evening celebrating the strong ties between Greece and New South Wales.

It was a pleasure for Business Sydney, in partnership with the Hellenic Club Sydney and Dedes Group, to host a special reception for Giorgos Skemperis, the newly appointed Consul General of Greece in Sydney, and Christina Stefanidou, Counsellor for Economic and Trade Affairs and Head of the Office for Economic and Commercial Affairs.

The evening brought together business leaders, government representatives and members of Sydney’s vibrant Greek Australian community to celebrate the enduring cultural, economic and people-to-people links between Greece and Australia.

We were honoured to hear from His Grace Bishop Iakovos of Miletoupolis, who spoke about the importance of unity within the community, and from the NSW State Minister for Finance, The Hon Courtney Houssos MLC, who welcomed the Consul General on behalf the NSW Premier and highlighted the significant contribution the Greek Australian community continues to make to NSW.

Thank you to Nikolas Hatzistergos, President of the Hellenic Club, for introducing the Consul General, and to Club Director, Christine Kanellakis, for delivering the vote of thanks.

The discussion with Consul General Skemperis and Christina Stefanidou highlighted exciting opportunities ahead to strengthen trade, investment and collaboration between Greece and Australia across sectors including shipping, tourism, energy and innovation.
