THE ART OF BUSINESS: A TAX REFORM WORKSHOP

With The Hon John Graham MLC, NSW Minister for the Arts

Business Sydney was proud to host The Art of Business: A Tax Reform Workshop – a forum that brought together leaders from across the arts, creative industries, philanthropy, and policy to explore how smarter tax reform can strengthen the future of Australia’s creative sector.

Across our discussions, a few themes have shone through clearly: the importance of creating stability for artists and creative organisations, the need for reforms that enhance long-term business viability, and the opportunities to strengthen Australia’s competitiveness on the global stage. These ideas are not abstract – they are grounded in lived experience and in the realities of building and sustaining creative careers and enterprises.

This important discussion highlights Sydney’s position as the arts and culture capital of Australia – and serves as a prelude to the NSW Government’s upcoming workshop in September, where ideas from across the sector will be considered.

A special thank you to our panel; Stephanie Kanellis, Tax Partner, RSM Australia, Tony Shepherd AO, Chair, Campaign Committee of the Powerhouse Museum, Suzanne Cotter, Director, Museum of Contemporary Art Australia, Liz Hughes, CEO, NIDA,  Keith Rovers, Partner, MinterEllison and Anne Dunn, Executive Director of Sydney Theatre Company for their insights and leadership, and to the Hon. John Graham MLC for engaging so openly with the sector.
