SUPERANNUATION, GENDER EQUITY AND FINANCIAL SAFETY

With Senator The Hon. Katy Gallagher, Minister for Finance, Minister for Women

   EVENT PARTNERS:

Sydney is leading an important conversation about superannuation, gender equity and financial safety and this policy forum was a huge success, bringing together 140 business leaders.

Hosted by Business Sydney in partnership with CareSuper, UNSW and Women in Super, the forum brought together government, business, superannuation and academia to examine how we can strengthen financial security and retirement outcomes for Australians, particularly women.

We were privileged to hear from Senator the Hon. Katy Gallagher, Federal Minister for Women, Minister for Government Services, Minister for Finance, Minister for the Public Service and Manager of Government Business in the Senate, who delivered an insightful keynote address and engaged with our audience on these critical issues.

Our outstanding panel continued the discussion:

  • Linda Scott, Chair, CareSuper
  • Jo Kowalczyk, CEO, Women In Super
  • Professor Ann Kayis-Kumar, Founding Director, UNSW Tax and Business Advisory Clinic
  • Senator the Hon. Katy Gallagher

With Australia’s superannuation system now exceeding $4.4 trillion in assets, and millions of Australians approaching retirement, the decisions we make today will have lasting consequences for individuals, employers and our economy.

The gender superannuation gap and financial safety are complex issues that require more than government action. They require a collaborative and collective effort from business leaders, employers, super funds, government, academia and the community.

A huge thank you to CareSuper, UNSW and Women In Super, Minister Gallagher, our outstanding panellists and the 140 business leaders who joined us and contributed to such an important conversation.

Also thank you to Professor Jan Breckenridge, Head of the School of Social Sciences and Co-Convener of the Gendered Violence Research Network (GVRN) at UNSW Sydney for moving the vote of thanks.
