At this lunch, the Hon. Prue Car MP, Deputy Premier of NSW and Minister for Education and Early Learning, outlined the NSW Government's focus on the international education sector and the benefits it has on Sydney’s economy.
The Deputy Premier was introduced by Toshi Kawaguchi, Director, Study NSW. After her address the Deputy Premier sat down to a Q&A with Margery Evans, Chief Executive, The Association of Independent Schools of NSW.
Following lunch, our panel facilitated by Scott Brown, Key Account Manager - Government and Education, SEEK, with Kate Pounder, Consultant & former CEO, Tech Council of Australia, and Kristy Larkin, Head of Talent, Endeavour Group, further delved into the challenges and opportunities for the sector and explained the NSW Jobs Connect for International Students, an initiative that connects NSW businesses with international students.

Bio
Prue Car is the Deputy Premier of NSW, Minister for Education and Early Learning, and Minister for Western Sydney. Prue has represented the Western Sydney seat of Londonderry in NSW Parliament since 2015 and was appointed to her current roles following the March 2023 NSW election.
In her role as Minister for Education and Early Learning, Prue has prioritised listening to teachers, principals, and parents about improving the NSW education system to ensure every child can achieve their potential.
Prue believes teaching is one of our state’s most important professions and is passionate about ensuring every child in every school receives a world-class education.
Together with the Premier of NSW, Chris Minns, Prue is committed to working hard for the people of NSW.

Key Account Manager - Government and Education, SEEK
Bio
Scott Brown is the Key Account Manager for SEEK leading the engagement with the Federal, ACT and NT Governments and Study Australia.
Scott joined SEEK in early 2020 after several years in Recruitment where he was successful in connecting job seekers to employment across Australia, Europe, Asia, North and South America.
In late 2022 Scott launched the NSW Jobs Connect initiative in partnership with StudyNSW and the wider NSW Government which aims to connect International Students with employment opportunities across the state.
With over a decades experience in the Employment space Scott is still passionate about the space and providing strategic Employment advice to both Employers and Candidates.
Scott holds a Bachelor of Arts in Human Geography and is based in the Sutherland Shire with his wife and daughter.
MARGERY EVANS
CEO, Association of Independent Schools of New South Wales
Bio
As Chief Executive of the Association of Independent Schools of NSW since January 2023, Margery represents a diverse and thriving sector of 511 non-government schools educating 228,602 students. The Independent sector is the fastest growing in NSW, enrolling 60% of all additional students since 2015.
AISNSW is a representative and member services body providing professional learning, advice, consultancy and support, as well as research and advocacy. The Independent sector includes a range of faith-based schools (various Christian denominations, Islamic, Jewish, Ananda Marga and Buddhist schools) and non-faith schools (Montessori, Steiner, community and other schools with an alternative teaching philosophy). One-fifth of Independent schools in NSW are Special or Special Assistance Schools, serving children with diverse needs.
Prior to joining AISNSW, Margery was the CEO of Independent Schools Australia (ISA). ISA is the national peak body representing Independent schools, Australia wide. ISA’s major role is to bring the unique needs of these schools to the attention of the Australian Government and to represent the sector on national issues.
From 2016 to 2020, Margery was the Global Academic Director for Aga Khan Education Services (AKES), one of the largest private education networks in the developing world operating over 200 schools and programmes in very diverse geographic locations in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Kenya, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Tanzania, Uganda and the United Arab Emirates.
Before joining AKES, Margery was the inaugural CEO for the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL), an organisation that continues to promote excellence in teaching and school leadership.
Prior to AITSL, Margery had worked as a teacher, school principal and senior system leader in four Australian states.

Consultant & Former CEO, Tech Council of Australia
Bio
Kate was most recently the inaugural CEO of the Tech Council of Australia. Here, she led work to look at how technology is changing jobs and skills in the economy, and advocated for policies to make sure businesses, workers and education institutes were equipped for the change.
Prior to that, she was a Partner in a startup analytics firm, AlphaBeta, that was later sold to Accenture, a consultant at McKinsey & Company, and worked in tech and communications policy for 15 years with the federal government, Network Ten and the Australian Industry Group.
