EXPLORING THE TRANSFORMATIVE POTENTIAL OF AI

Lunch with Professor Attila Brungs AO, Vice-Chancellor and President - Sydney, UNSW

         EVENT PARTNER:

Sydney continues to strengthen its position as a global centre for innovation, talent and technology. At this lunch more than 100 business leaders, academics and industry representatives joined Business Sydney and UNSW Sydney for an exclusive luncheon exploring the transformative potential of artificial intelligence for business, society and the future of work.

At a time when digital literacy and AI capability are becoming essential drivers of competitiveness, workforce development and economic resilience, the discussion highlighted the importance of strong collaboration between industry and academia. We were honoured to hear from Professor Attila Brungs AO, Vice-Chancellor and President of UNSW Sydney, who delivered a thought-provoking keynote on the critical role universities play in advancing AI research, innovation and talent development, and how partnerships between universities and business will help shape Australia’s future prosperity.

A special thank you to Tarushi Nandwani, UNSW Data Science and Decisions student and former President of the UNSW AI Society, for sharing an inspiring next-generation perspective on the opportunities AI presents for students and future workforces.

A highlight of the event was the engaging panel discussion facilitated by Professor Paul Andon, Dean of UNSW Business School, featuring:

  • Professor Fahim Khondaker, Partner, Data and AI, BDO Australia
  • Renay Ringma, Head of AI, AMP
  • Minnie Singh-Murphy, Executive Manager, AI Education, Partnerships and Adoption, Westpac

The panel explored the practical application of AI across industries, emerging opportunities for business growth, workforce readiness, responsible adoption, governance considerations and the evolving skills required to succeed in an AI-enabled economy.

We also extend our sincere thanks to Christina Larkin, Digital Assurance Leader at EY, for delivering the vote of thanks and helping conclude a highly insightful discussion.

Business Sydney is proud to partner with UNSW Sydney to foster meaningful conversations that connect business, education and innovation. Together, we can help build an AI-capable workforce, support lifelong learning and ensure Sydney remains at the forefront of the opportunities presented by the digital economy.
