BREAKFAST WITH MR YIANNIS LOVERDOS

The Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Greece

   EVENT PARTNERS:

Business Sydney hosted Greece’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for Hellenism Abroad, Mr Ioannis Loverdos, for an inspiring breakfast in collaboration with the Consul General of Greece in Sydney, Giorgos Skemperis, and proudly supported by the Bank of Sydney.

NSW Minister, The Hon. Sophie Cotsis MP, first welcomed the Deputy Foreign Minister and congratulated His Grace Bishop Athenagoras of Canberra on his recent ordination.

She also acknowledged the Ambassador of Greece to Australia, Mr Stavros Venizelos, and Consul General of Greece in Sydney, Mr George Skemperis, for their ongoing work in strengthening bilateral and community ties.

The gathering brought together business, community, and cultural leaders from across Sydney’s vibrant Greek-Australian community to deepen engagement between Greece and its diaspora.

A lively Q&A session, moderated by Dr Patricia Koromvokis of Macquarie University, connected policy with lived experience from the community. Deputy Minister Loverdos outlined several new initiatives to strengthen engagement with Greeks abroad — including the establishment of a National Day of the Diaspora (April 29), the launch of the digital “e-Proxenio” portal to modernise consular services, and strengthening voting from abroad in future Greek elections.

The vote of thanks was moved by Maria Karavias, Chief Marketing Officer, Bank of Sydney.

The discussion was filled with optimism and shared purpose — a reminder that the bond between Greece and its diaspora is both enduring and evolving, built on mutual respect and a shared vision for the future.
