Business Sydney and the Australian Turf Club today hailed the much-anticipated $30 million economic boost the TAB Everest will deliver to Sydney and NSW.

Paul Nicolaou, Business Sydney’s executive director, said Everest confirmed the city’s reputation as the big events capital of Australia and was a credit to everyone associated with its growth over the past ten years.

“With a record 52,000 racegoers at Royal Randwick tomorrow including a quarter from interstate or overseas, Sydney can look forward to an economic boost of $30 million or more.

“The value added benefits touch Sydney at so many levels including hospitality, accommodation and transport. Analysis shows the benefits go even deeper than this.

“It shows that racegoers will spend around $6 million alone on ‘dressing and grooming’ as they seek to look their spectacular best on the big day.”

The Australian Turf Club has welcomed a new economic contribution analysis prepared by Kroll ahead of the historic 10th running of the TAB Everest at Royal Randwick tomorrow.

The analysis reinforces the TAB Everest’s position as one of Sydney’s major sporting and entertainment events, attracting racegoers to Royal Randwick from interstate and abroad, generating significant economic activity across the city and NSW.

This year’s TAB Everest will be staged in front of a modern-day Royal Randwick record crowd of more than 52,000, with General Admission tickets sold out many weeks in advance.

The Group 1 $20 million TAB Everest – the richest turf race in the world - headlines Australia’s richest raceday, with more than $31 million in prize money to be won.

Australian Turf Club Chief Executive Officer Steve McMahon said the event’s growth was delivering benefits well beyond the raceday.

“The TAB Everest has become a genuine Sydney event, and its success is a major boost for New South Wales,” Mr McMahon said.

“It brings people together in an electric atmosphere at Royal Randwick, showcases our city to Australia and the world, and generates enormous economic activity for businesses right across Sydney.

“Just ten years young, the TAB Everest has become much more than an extraordinary horse race.

“It is now a major sporting and entertainment occasion that gives people another reason to visit Sydney, stay in our hotels, enjoy our restaurants and experience everything our great city has to offer.

“The extraordinary demand for this year’s event shows just how strongly people have embraced the TAB Everest. A record crowd at Royal Randwick is a great outcome for racing, for Sydney and for the broader NSW visitor economy.

“We are proud that Royal Randwick can host an event of this scale and global profile. The TAB Everest demonstrates what Sydney does so well — world-class sport, hospitality and entertainment in one unforgettable experience.”

The 2026 TAB Everest will feature defending champion Ka Ying Rising – the world’s highest rated horse - alongside Australia’s leading sprinters as the race celebrates its 10th running.
