BUSINESS SYDNEY SALUTES FIDDLER ON THE ROOF’S AUSTRALIAN PREMIERE AT THEATRE ROYAL SYDNEY

Business Sydney is today proudly partnering with Theatre Royal Sydney and Trafalgar Entertainment to celebrate the Australian premiere of Fiddler on the Roof as the internationally acclaimed musical weaves its magic in our city.

Executive Director, Paul Nicolaou, said the premiere puts the spotlight on the vital role that live theatre plays in Sydney’s economy, culture and global reputation.

He said the Australian premiere of Fiddler on the Roof came at a critical time for Sydney’s performing arts sector following the recent cancellation of several major productions.

Fiddler on the Roof’s arrival was a welcome confidence boost for the city’s theatres, hospitality, accommodation and visitor economy.

It reinforced Sydney’s position as Australia’s premier destination for world-class live entertainment and highlighted the importance of continued investment in the arts.

To mark the productions Australian premiere, NSW Minister for the Arts, the Hon John Graham MLC, Paul Nicolaou and celebrated violinist Ben Adler, who stars as The Fiddler, met at the theatre.

The Sydney production follows a record-breaking sold-out season in London’s West End, where it became the Barbican Theatre’s best-selling musical of all time and won three Olivier Awards, including best musical revival.

Fiddler on the Roof tells the timeless story of Tevye, a Jewish milkman navigating faith, family and tradition as his daughters embrace a rapidly changing world.

Featuring unforgettable songs including Tradition, If I Were A Rich Man, Matchmaker and Sunrise, Sunset, the musical remains one of the most beloved productions in theatrical history.

The Australian production stars acclaimed Australian and West End performer Troy Sussman as Tevye, Australian stage and screen icon Sigrid Thornton as Yente, Alexis Fishman as Golde, John Waters as Lazar Wolf, rising stars Freya Boltman, Ellen Ebbs and Caity Plummer along with Ben Adler as The Fiddler.
