Business Sydney says recent economic data shows Sydney is leading the way in capital city economic recovery, with improving consumer and business confidence, house price growth and falling unemployment indicating why Sydney continues as the nation’s economic engine room.

“Business Sydney, formerly Sydney Business Chamber, has a two-hundred-year history in advocating for and driving economic growth and our new title reflects our growing influence, reach and digital offering as the voice for business in the Sydney region,” said Katherine O’Regan, Executive Director of Business Sydney.

“Recent positive economic news from the Treasurer, including that 80 per cent of NSW jobs lost in the peak of Covid have returned, the budget forecast revised down and a record 39 days with no new Covid cases, reflects the enviable economic recovery of our city, contrasting well against Melbourne’s.”

“Business and consumer confidence is returning and as the voice for business in the Sydney region, Business Sydney, is committed to driving employment through opportunities for economic growth, along with reshaping and planning for the future to advance our city as a great place to invest, work, live and visit.”

“Our key priorities include reforming and accelerating planning processes, delivering sustainable urban renewal and precincts, enhancing social and cultural inputs for the community and attracting trade, talent and investment.”

“Covid has put the entire business community and all tiers of government under great strain and our members have typified the entrepreneurial spirit, adaptability and resilience that has seen Sydney lead the nation in overcoming the challenges of Covid, to emerge stronger and better.”

“We have more work to do to ensure Sydney continues to lead the nation in investment and economic growth and we will continue working to advance Sydney as a global, competitive and liveable city.”
