Business Sydney Members & Guests

Business Sydney was excited to host this lunch in conjunction with Sydney WorldPride 2023, and Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras to engage the corporate sector and to outline the benefits and positive impact that WorldPride & Mardi Gras 2023 will bring to Sydney and its business sector during the festival and beyond.

Taking place from 17 February to 5 March 2023, Sydney WorldPride will celebrate Australia’s brilliant and diverse LGBTQIA+ community, in a city renowned for its diversity, inclusivity and proud LGBTQIA+ population.

The discussion with our special guests was passionate and inspiring. Following the formalities, Andrew Pellow, Partner from Deloitte moved the vote of thanks. Thank you to Kristy Edser from MinterEllison for hosting and introducing our speakers.

CEO, Sydney WorldPride 2023

Kate studied law and began her career in various legal roles including a one year appointment as Associate to Supreme Court Justice Steven Bailey (NT), and legal positions at Maddocks, Buchanan Group, and Port of Melbourne Corp.

While completing a Master in Business Administration, Kate lectured at University of Melbourne and was a director of Midsumma Festival for just over three years. From there, her career pivoted into corporate leadership and she held a NSW Government position as project director for its Future Transport project. This was followed by roles as Partner for Aurecon (NSW and Victoria) and then Head of Change and Communications, Better Risk Outcomes Program with Commonwealth Bank.

Kate was co-chair of the SGLMG board before stepping down to head up Sydney WorldPride. Her devotion to the LGBTIQ community is equalled only by the value she brings to it. Kate has been volunteering for LGBTIQ+ organisations for over 20 years. An outstanding leader, creative thinker, tireless worker, and compassionate human being.

CEO, Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras

Before joining Mardi Gras, Albert led the Industrial Portfolio delivering Exhibitions and Trade Fairs’ five largest domestic business-to-business shows. In the last two years, he has been responsible for the end-to-end delivery for each event, including exhibition and sponsorship sales, operations, ticket sales, marketing, and finance departments driving tangible results and growth KPI’s. Before working in Australia, Albert started an events company at 21 and managed the business for 12 years. As founder and CEO of Contemporary Events group of companies in South Africa, he saw the business grow from 1 to over 60 employees across four brands. Albert has delivered several significant projects in his career, and maintained a central ethos that every event should not only be fun to attend but always serve a higher purpose with a clear strategic outcome.

His vision for SGLMG is to build on the solid foundations and grow the organisation into a highly successful global brand. He intends to leverage the momentum of the existing Australian events experience to ensure the organisation’s financial viability and build on Australia’s diversity and inclusion agenda.
