This lunch offered a wide-ranging overview of the policy initiatives that have featured in the Albanese Government’s first year in office.
The Hon Patrick Gorman MP, Assistant Minister to the Prime Minister, Assistant Minister for the Public Service, and Federal Member for Perth, outlined the Federal Government's current priorities and what to expect in the year ahead.
We also heard an insightful panel discussion with the Assistant Minister and Cr Linda Scott, City of Sydney Council and President of the Australian Local Government Association, facilitated by David Borger, Executive Director of Business Western Sydney.

Assistant Minister Patrick Gorman has a Master of Business Administration from the University of Western Australia and a Bachelor of Social Science from Curtin University.
Prior to Parliament, Patrick was Principal Adviser to Prime Minister Kevin Rudd.
As State Secretary of WA Labor, Patrick lead the 2017 State Election campaign, electing Premier Mark McGowan in a record-breaking result.
Since Patrick’s election to Parliament in 2018, he has become a strong voice for Western Australia and a strong voice for Australia’s national interest.
In 2022, Patrick was sworn in as the Assistant Minister to Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and in 2023 as Assistant Minister for the Public Service.
Patrick and his wife Jess are raising their children Leo and Ruby in North Perth.
Councillor Linda Scott is an experienced board director and local government leader. Linda serves as the Chair of CareSuper, the Chair of the Australian Local Government Association, and is a member of the National Cabinet with the Prime Minister, Premiers and Chief Ministers. She’s a Director of the Australian Council for Superannuation Investors (ACSI), and Councillor on the City of Sydney Council, formerly serving as Deputy Lord Mayor.
Linda also serves on a number of Commonwealth Government bodies and NSW Government boards, including the NSW Environmental Trust. She participates in the annual CEO Sleepout, and is passionate about taking action on climate change and the creation of more affordable housing.
Linda was nominated as a Member Director of CareSuper by Unions NSW. She brings in-depth knowledge of culture, governance, risk and advocacy.

David has led Business Western Sydney since its foundation in 2012. Prior to this, he served as the Minister for Western Sydney, Minister for Housing, Minister for Roads, and Minister assisting the Minister for Transport and Roads in NSW Labor Governments.
He was also the youngest person, at 30 years of age, to hold the office of Lord Mayor of Parramatta.
David is currently a Director of Think Planners, Independent Chair of the Liverpool Innovation Precinct, a non-executive director on the boards of the NRMA and Evolve Housing, a Trustee of the Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences, and a member of the Placemaking NSW Advisory Committee.
