Following from the updated 2022-2023 Federal Budget handed down by Treasurer Jim Chalmers on 25 October in Parliament House, The Hon Dr Andrew Leigh MP addressed Business Sydney's members at an exclusive boardroom lunch.
Dr Leigh spoke about his priorities and the Albanese' governments plans to manage the economy in a responsible manner to navigate the issues such as inflation, labour skills shortages and interest rates whilst ensuring Australia is a world leader in education standards and healthcare, he also spoke about stimulating competition and cracking down on abuses of market power by multinationals and oligopolies.
After his address, Business NSW's Chief Economist, Dr Sherman Chan, conducted an informative Q&A, further drilling down into Dr Leigh's thoughts on major issues confronting business in the current economic climate.

Andrew Leigh is the Shadow Assistant Minister for Treasury and Charities, and Federal Member for Fenner in the ACT. Prior to being elected in 2010, Andrew was a professor of economics at the Australian National University. He holds a PhD in Public Policy from Harvard, having graduated from the University of Sydney with first class honours in Arts and Law. Andrew is a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Social Sciences, and a past recipient of the 'Young Economist Award', a prize given every two years by the Economics Society of Australia to the best economist under 40.

Andrew is the father of three sons - Sebastian, Theodore and Zachary, and lives with his wife Gweneth in Canberra. He has been a member of the Australian Labor Party since 1991.
