After exiting the EU it came as no real surprise that the first country the UK signed a Free Trade Agreement with was Australia and cricketing legend Sir Ian Botham OBE is here as the first UK trade envoy to Australia to promote bilateral trade and investment between the two countries.
At this event Sir Ian Botham spoke about his life and cricketing career and why he took on the role of UK Trade Envoy to Australia. He outlined how the UK offers Australian investors a robust and business-friendly environment to expand, trade and invest. The evening featured a robust Q&A facilitated by Erin Molan, Australian broadcaster and journalist, Sky News, 2 DayFM, Daily Telegraph.

LORD Ian Botham OBE
UK's Trade Envoy to Australia, Cricket Legend
Sir Ian Botham, affectionately nicknamed Beefy, is one of the greatest and most charismatic players in English cricket history. He earned fame and attention in England, having been perhaps the best all-rounder the game had ever seen.
Since retiring from cricket, Sir Botham has engaged in an extensive array of charity work to help raise awareness and support for people suffering with Leukaemia - having completed 16 charity walks across three decades. In recognition for his services to charity, Sir Ian Botham was subsequently knighted in 2007 by Queen Elizabeth II.
Sir Botham was appointed a life peerage in October 5th 2020 and UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson appointing Lord Botham as the UK's Trade Envoy to Australia in August 2021. As part of this role, Lord Botham remit is to boost export opportunities for British businesses, and UK trade more generally; drive economic growth; and encourage inward investment across all regions of the UK by promoting the UK as an attractive place to do business.
