Margaret Crawford commenced as the Auditor-General for New South Wales in April 2016. In this role she supports the Parliament to hold government to account for the effective use of public resources. Her key focus is to provide insights that inform and challenge government to improve outcomes for the community.

Margaret’s appointment to this role followed distinguished public service experience with the Commonwealth Government, two State Governments and with Australia’s largest local government.  She has a track record of success at a CEO/COO/Deputy Secretary level in a diverse range of sectors, housing and homelessness, community and disability services, transport policy and regulation, taxation administration, and gaming regulation. While varied, her key focus in each role has been to transform and improve outcomes for customers, often the most vulnerable citizens in the community.

An inspiring and empathetic leader, Margaret is also a trusted partner of colleagues across government, non-government organisations and industry bodies; and an authoritative adviser to the Parliament, Government Ministers and Boards.
